About Alpha Phi
Alpha Phi is a strong Greek sisterhood built on leadership and lifelong loyalty. Guided by our core values, we foster an environment where strong women are encouraged to grow academically, personally, and socially while uplifting one another along the way. Through meaningful philanthropy, service, and shared experiences, we empower our members to lead with confidence, compassion, and integrity. Creating bonds that last far beyond Washington State University and a legacy rooted in purpose and impact.

Beta Rho History
Alpha Phi was first started in 1872 by ten courageous women at Syracuse University who wanted a space where women could support each other in education and leadership at a time when women weren’t always welcomed in Greek life. These founders like Martha Foote Crow dreamed of a lasting sisterhood built on character, unity, affection, and truth. Their vision set the tone for Alpha Phi’s focus on growth, support, and service long before the word “sorority” even existed.
At Washington State University, the Beta Rho chapter has carried that legacy since it was founded in 1942, bringing those founding values to campus through sisterhood events, leadership opportunities, philanthropy, and lifelong friendships.

Alpha Phi Symbols
Alpha Phi’s symbols reflect our history values and sisterhood. The ivy leaf represents growth, strength, and lasting bonds, while our colors, silver and bordeaux, symbolize elegance, wisdom, and loyalty. The lily of the valley stands for purity friendship and sweetness and the Phi Bear represents protection courage and unity. Together these symbols connect Alpha Phi women across generations and remind us of the values we carry every day.
